GPS off-road tour book Western Alps Lake Garda

Book including data download

240 pages, 30 detailed off-road route descriptions and the associated waypoint lists await you in this travel guide. Sometimes along the mountain ridge with impressive panoramic views, sometimes to reachable high points up to 3,000 meters high, sometimes through magnificent gorges. The guide is supplemented with information about the military roads and forts from the First World War and off-road driving tips. With the enclosed data download you get all GPS tracks and waypoints (GPX) for each route. For this GPS OFF-ROAD travel guide we spent two months on adventurous slopes in Italy and France. The result is a total of 30 off-road routes in a breathtaking mountain world. We drove and described each route ourselves. We were accompanied on some of the slopes by the nature photographer Christian Stein.

Data download

With the data download you get for each route:
- all GPS tracks and waypoints (GPX)

There are three subfolders in the “GPS data” folder. The route, track and waypoint list for each off-road route are stored in duplicate. On the one hand as a kml file for display on Google Earth and as a gpx file, the exchange format for all navigation programs and GPS devices.

Can I drive routes with my Unimog?

Of the 30 routes described, 3 or 4 are suitable and permitted for vehicle sizes such as Unimog.
All routes can be optimally driven on with off-road vehicles such as Defender, Cruiser, Patrol, G etc.
Almost all routes can be driven with a 4×4-Sprinter, Bremach, 4×4-Daily, as long as the height does not exceed 2.7 m and the vehicle has the factory ground clearance, i.e. no underfloor tanks are installed.
Vehicles with a height of up to 3 m can be used on 28 of the 30 routes. For vehicles over 3 m high, 26 routes from the 4×4 tour book are possible.

Can I drive alone or do I need a tour group for safety reasons?
All routes are regularly used by travelers and locals in the summer months. If there is a technical defect, simply stay with the vehicle. 99% of the time you will have a good mobile connection everywhere.

Do I need a winch and MT tires
No, a winch is not required nor are MUD-Terrain (MT) tires required. An all-terrain tire is completely sufficient.

Do I absolutely need all-wheel drive?
This depends on the route, the time of year and the weather conditions.
In midsummer, when all routes are free of snow and dry, four-wheel drive is not absolutely necessary. Without all-wheel drive, however, you have to expect that diagonal ditches will have to be filled with stones. Ground clearance and short overhangs are more important than all-wheel drive.

Can I drive on the routes with my VW-T5 4motion and Seikel conversion.
Yes.

Authors

Sabine and Burkhard, both born in 1965, have been traveling together since they were 16. On one of her first trips, the desire to be independent of time and to live mobile arose. They have been modern nomads since 2004: They traveled with their snow groomer around Africa and the Middle East for a few years, drove overland to India and lived in a Land Cruiser in Australia for two years. They have covered around 600,000 km in more than 80 countries in various four-wheel drive vehicles. They document their travel experiences in films, lectures and books.
